Resident Artist
Rupert Record is a young, London based artist. His many personal works
adorn the walls of the Leisure Pass Group offices. A graduate from the
Royal Academy of Arts and Chelsea College of Arts, Rupert has been a practising
artist and art teacher for some 8 years.
| His paintings are layered using organic
shapes, which allow the viewer to enter a world of sensuality and
fantasy. Painting as a narrative, he uses symbolism from the military
as metaphors for his own memories and dreams to comment on masculinity.
An interest in the desire to find love, peace and friendship within
a shadow of fear drives many of his works. |

During 2000 2003, Rupert worked as an artist with refugees in
temporary accommodation in Dover and London. From this experience, Rupert
has drawn upon the common themes that emerge in their images: war, journeys,
destruction, pain, symbols of their homeland, hope, memories and friendship.
His process of defining image and content are complex, intuition rather
than logic rules the decision making process. They are images that demand
attention and ask the viewer to ask questions of themselves and their
society. The message is subtle and quietly humorous. The resultant works
are beautiful, but when fully realised, surprise in their structure, content
and visual richness.
